Fast, fun, and family-friendly, it’s easy to see why self-serve frozen yogurt is one hottest food trends of the last decade. Not only do these dessert shops offer dozens of flavors and toppings, they also cater to a wide array of dietary restrictions. With gluten-free, nut-free, and kosher options galore, getting frozen yogurt together means that no one is ever left in the cold. Many of them offer sorbets, and 16 Handles is one of thew few to offer non-dairy options!
Recently, they announced a new vegan flavor! They will now carry cashew milk frozen yogurt in a growing assortment of flavors. The new flavor is Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle, which is made with high-quality cashew milk, hazelnuts and all-natural cocoa. The flavor will also launch alongside vegan Belgian chocolate truffles to add as a topping to the flavor. To make matters even more delicious, the company said they plan to release a new flavor on the 16th of every month.
In a press release, the company said: “Since the very beginning, New Yorkers have embraced 16 Handles because of our commitment to quality, innovation, and inclusiveness.”
So, pretty awesome. 16 Handles isn’t even the first chain to offer vegan fro-yo, with Red Mango, Orange Leaf, and Pinkberry already in possession of their own plant-based treats. Even if you’re not in range of a 16 Handles, this news is also a sign of changing times. With these larger fro-yo chains making the green switch, others are sure to follow.

Need your caffeine fix in a dessert? Kimberly Espinel‘s decadent Coffee Ice Cream is made from cashews, dates, strong-brewed coffee, and a secret ingredient — sweet potatoes. But you (nor anyone else) would be able to tell. It has a rich salted caramel swirl within, but be sure to save some for drizzling on top, along with crunchy coffee beans.

This Sweet Potato Ice Cream by Emily Brees is like a summery cousin to autumn’s pumpkin pie. This creamy and decadent cashew-based ice cream is spicy and cool — nobody would ever guess that it actually contains sweet potato! A topping of pecans complements the ice cream and if you’re feeling it, add a dollop of coconut whipped cream.
