Woman Rescues Special Needs Crow From Streets of Moscow

A woman named Varvara Underwood rescued a special needs crow off the streets of Moscow, and now the hilarious bird acts just like a dog.

Underwood first saw the crow, now named Benedict, in the streets of Moscow and thought something might be wrong with him. He was only a couple of weeks old, and Underwood watched him for four days on the central Moscow streets and saw that he never moved from one spot. That’s when she decided to take him home and call the vet. She found out that his heart was very weak and he could not fly.

“When parents see that the chick is not going to be able to survive, they just abandon the chick,” Underwood told GeoBeats Animals.

Benedict stayed with Underwood because she and the vet knew that he could not survive outside. He lived on the open balcony, and she had to feed him every hour. Soon, Benedict became part of the family and loved to study his new human.

“He just developed this passion for being in the family,” Underwood said. “He always wanted to be near, he observed me all the time, he studied me all the time, he learned and he is just an incredibly curious creature.”

Benedict also even has a rescued crow brother named Arcasha, who he was a little jealous of at first, but they have since become somewhat ok with each other. However, when Underwood gives Arcasha some pets or head scratches, she knows she has to close the door because Benedict will get very jealous.

“I don’t feel like they are my pets. Benedict and Arcasha are my family,” Underwood says.

The crows are incredibly curious, smart, and love to play.
