This may be one of the most absurd policies we have ever heard, and it comes from Walmart Corporate. Apparently, it is against company policy for employees to make announcements notifying customers if there is a pet suffering from being locked inside a hot car, and doing so could cost an employee their job. Changing this policy could save countless lives and prevent needless heartbreak. A Care2 petition is urging Walmart to make this simple change to allow employees to make these life-saving announcements without fear of being let go.
According to the creator of the petition who was left to witness a dog suffocating from being locked in a hot car with the windows rolled up, a Walmart employee reported that they were frequently notified of similar situations and were not allowed to do anything about it. Please sign the petition and tell Walmart there is no reason for this! The lives of innocent animals, who also help put money in their pockets, should far outweigh this ridiculous policy.
After being in a car for as little as 15 minutes on a hot day, a dog can suffer brain damage or even die of heatstroke. Many pet guardians feel they can quickly run into a store or run an errand and leave their pet in the car, but fifteen minutes can sneak up, threatening the lives of beloved pets. Every year, we hear about these preventable situations, and Walmart has an opportunity to help save countless lives.
Temperatures inside a parked car on a hot day can rise almost 20 degrees in a short 10 minutes or less. Please sign the petition to send Walmart the memo that it is their responsibility to do whatever they can to protect the lives of animals in their parking lots.
