Losing an animal companion is heartbreaking both for humans and for their fellow furry siblings. Just like humans, animals will mourn the passing of a fellow creature they are close to. Even in the time leading up to death, they may exhibit changes in behavior.
@neurobelonging Anyone have any insight on this? They have never been so calm and quiet. I’ve never lost a pet before, so this is a new kind of heartbreak. #💔 #petloss #catloss #endoflifecare #petlove #kidneydisease #cat #🐈⬛
This can be seen in one video that has been posted to the TikTok account @neuroqueercoach. In the video, viewers can see the behavior exhibited by a duo of dogs as their feline sibling nears the end of their life. The cat is 16 years old, and due to be put down soon due to incurable illness caused by kidney disease. The poster shares that, although rambunctious, the two dogs “have never been so calm and quiet.”
Viewers were touched by the dogs’ behavior. One user wrote “They know, and your cat knows too. this is them making peace and saying goodbye.” The heartbreaking video has been liked over 66,000 times.
