The method starts three hours before you plan on going to bed. You want to avoid having large meals at this time. Eating too much before bed can prevent you from having the rapid eye movements that occur during REM sleep. This is necessary to have deep, restorative sleep, and to feel rejuvenated and rested when you wake up. Having a large meal before bed can also increase the risk of acid reflux and indigestion and overall sleep quality.
Two hours before bed, you want to get yourself into a relaxed state of mind. This means no more work. Instead, try to wind down by reading a book.
One hour before bed, try your best to put away the technology and screens. This means no more Netflix before bed. Try and keep your phone in a different room so you’re not tempted to use it. The blue light from the screen can affect the quality of your sleep. Try out this 3-2-1 method and see just how much more rested and refreshed you feel in the morning!
