When we hear news about animals that have been abused by humans, it can be easy to shut down and lose hope in humanity. But for every cruel person out there, there seems to be at least a handful of incredibly compassionate people as well. And thankfully, this is one of those stories that will restore your faith in humanity.

Just recently, a Labrador Retriever mix was not only dumped into an Alabama river and left to fend for himself, but the dog was crated and zip-tied closed. Unbelievable! The dog had no way to escape the certain fate of drowning. Why would someone do such a thing!?

With only a few inches of air to breathe, a kind bypasser saw the crate in just the nick of time and knew exactly what to do to help.

The person who found the dog managed to grab ahold of the crate strap and pull it out of the water to release the dog. The rescuer immediately called a local animal lover, Tina Dean, who helped get the pup help.

With the help of Dean, the dog was rushed to Dr. Lee at Lee’s Veterinary Hospital, where he is now receiving the care and treatment he deserves.

Lee’s Veterinary Hospital is accepting donations for the dog’s care and you can call the hospital at (256) 734-1177 if you’d like to help. Tina named the dog “Cleatus” and has taken on the responsibility of helping to raise funds to cover his care. If you would like to make a contribution, be sure to reference “Cleatus Dean” so the donation goes to the proper account.

The person who committed this heinous act has yet to be found. The authorities have been notified about the situation and if anyone has information, they are asked to call the police in Blount County. We hope whoever did this is found and charged!

Please, always speak up when you see an animal in need. If you happen to come across a dog or cat, or any other animal in need, check out these Animal Rescue Hotlines. Just like this kind person stopped when they saw the crate in the river, you could save a life. And of course, always adopt and never shop!
