The celebrities are supporting initiatives from the international advocacy organization Global Citizen. Global Citizen is an action-based platform that is dedicated to ending poverty, demanding equity, and defending the planet.
Billboard reported that the letter urges global governments to take meaningful action like “breaking systemic barriers that keep people in poverty,” taking climate action now, and “empowering young women and girls across the world.”
Musicians that signed the letter include superstars like Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, and Coldplay. The open letter calls on governments, private sector leaders, and billionaires to finally take action against these issues. The letter was announced last week during the organization’s first leadership summit in NYC, called the Global Citizen NOW.
Billboard reported that other artists and celebrities that took action and signed the letter include: 5 Seconds of Summer, Adam Lambert, Alessia Cara, Alok, Bill Nye, Billy Porter, Camilo, Cathy Freeman, Charlie Puth, Chloe x Halle, Connie Britton, Criolo, Cyndi Lauper, DJ Cuppy, Duran Duran, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Femi Kuti, Finneas, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, Lali, Lang Lang, Made Kuti, MÅNESKIN, Muzi, Nancy Isime, Nile Rodgers, Nomzamo Mbatha, Padma Lakshmi, Rachel Brosnahan, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Elba, and Tropkillaz.
