We love when celebrities use their fame and public voice to speak up for animals and promote a cruelty-free lifestyle. One celebrity leading the fight for Animal rights in the public sphere is comedian Ricky Gervais, who has done everything from promoting the adoption of shelter animals, speaking out against people who leave dogs trapped in hot cars, donating money from his tour to animals, shaming trophy hunters and those who wear fur, and even rescuing a baby squirrel! His outspoken dedication for animals has led him to receive a prestigious animal welfare award, and luckily for us all, his work for animals is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Largely thanks to the wildly popular documentary BlackfishSeaWorld is now infamous for their inhumane treatment of marine mammals. It has been proven time and time again that captivity is no place for wild animals. Highly intelligent and social creatures like orcas and dolphins are kept in tiny enclosures and forced to perform unnatural tricks in front of noisy crowds in exchange for food. The vast expanses of the oceans are the natural territory for these incredible animals, and living in captivity causes many illnesses and disorders, such as zoochosis, where animals exhibit compulsive, often self-destructive behavior.

One of the most recent tragedies involving marine mammals in captivity is the story of Kyara, the orca calf who died just three months after being born in captivity at SeaWorld. Always the spokesperson for animals, Ricky Gervais had something to say about SeaWorld on his Facebook page:

We could not have said it better ourselves! Wild animals belong in the wild, not in captivity in cramped tanks to be exploited for a profit.

All the tanks will be forced to be emptied once the demand for this type of “entertainment” ends. Some people are still unaware that life in SeaWorld is often a death sentence for animals, so please share this with your network to further instill Support and awareness for the cause!

  1. All of these aquariums have to SHUT DOWN! Why can\’t humans leave animals in the wild, where they belong? These wild animals were not meant to perform unnatural tricks just so humans can make a buck. They should all be ashamed of themselves. After seeing how many of these animals die from illness and infection, what else do they need to convince them that this is not the place for them??? And I don\’t believe that they cannot be released back into the open ocean because they won\’t survive! What crap! These animals, in my opinion, are so much smarter than humans that they will easily adapt back to their natural world! It\’s just a silly and stupid argument to keep them making money! FREE ALL OF THEM NOW!
