We thought we couldn’t love Ricky Gervais anymore than we already do, but then he went and did something incredible for animals once again!
The comic, producer, and long-time animal advocate donated $45,000 to charities helping both those suffering from cancer and animals in need.
$25,000 of the sum donated came from proceeds raised during his “Humanity World Tour” show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This huge chunk of money will go to the Delta Society, an organization which works to improve human health through service and therapy animals, as well as to the New York headquarters of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
The other $20,000 was raised from Gervais’ Chicago show last month and the donation is divided between Gilda Radner’s cancer Support community, Gilda’s Club Chicago, and PAW’s Chicago, Chicago’s largest pet adoption foundation.
Gervais’s selfless gesture is not surprising. Earlier this year, Gervais was awarded the prestigious Lord Houghton Award for Service to Animal Welfare by Animal Defenders International (ADI), for his animal advocacy work. With over four million Facebook fans and 12 million Twitter followers, Gervais is known for using his social media power for good. He’s known for posting poignant messages on Facebook about trophy hunting, the atrocities of the fur industry, and the absurdity of keeping animals in captivity. He just recently shared a powerful message about the importance of bees on Twitter, as well as a passionate statement about the cruel Yulin dog meat festival.
Thank you, Ricky Gervais, for being a constant voice for animals!
Even if you don’t have $45,000 to Donate to charity (or even 12 million Twitter followers!), don’t let that deter you from helping animals! Anyone can be a hero for animals in need. Saving one animal might not change the world, but for that one animal, their entire world is changed.

Well done on the donations but honestly I have to put this in perspective. This money is small change to Gervais but nicely presented to gain the most publicity. He loves animals as long as he can still eat some of them. He critises the wearing of fur but is okay to wear leather – same thing, animal skin.
And how many thousands of dollars have you given to help causes for animals? How many people do your tweets or facebook posts reach? Contrary to what you are saying, you can love and care about animals even if you aren\’t vegan or vegetarian.
He is still raising awareness even if he isn\’t Vegan, you have to give him props for that.
A thousand thank you\’s Ricky on behalf of the many animals whose lives will be improved by your great kindness. Blessings to you :)
BIG HEART TO HELP THE ANIMALS WITH THIS MONEY.
