Marine animal rehabilitators get to interact with animals in ways that many of us only dream of. Whether an animal is injured, ill, or has become stranded on a beach’s shore, rehabilitators are there to assist in any way that they can. While there is obviously great joy that comes from being in such close quarters with majestic marine animals, there is nothing better than returning these animals back to where they belong. After all, rehabilitators are only in close proximity with these animals when something is wrong, so to be able to return them to sea means that they have succeeded in making things right again.
Marine Mammal Care Center in California, for example, has recently bid farewell to two of their seal patients. Carried over to the beach in barrels, these seals were definitely ready to get back into the ocean! As soon as the barrels’ cover was lifted, they sped to the ocean, ready to get back to being the curious and friendly aquatic creatures they are known for being. But first! A sweet kiss before they rejoin their marine friends. Too cute!
Even with all of the threats marine mammals face today, it’s good to recognize these moments for the awesome (and adorable) victories that they are.
