When you truly love all living creatures, the world begins to look different. Pigs are not filthy animals who flop around in mud, they are cuddle buddies that simply need to be hosed down before a good snuggle sesh. Chickens aren’t thoughtless birds that peck around mindlessly without any clue of who they are, they are cognitively adept animals who can recognize their name and enjoy playing with others. And bats are not scary winged mammals that flap spastically in the night just to frighten the wits out of people, they are animals that just happen to be associated with all things dark and creepy, but can actually be quite adorable when given some affection.
The rescued bat in the video above is the perfect example of how, with just a little TLC, bats can quickly go from scary to snuggly. How can you be afraid of that precious face?! While yes, we should be wary of coming into close contact with bats, since they can carry a number of harmful diseases, there are plenty of things that bats do on a larger scale that is beneficial to the entire community. Most notably, they help manage pests like mosquitoes and aid in the pollination process. So next time you go a whole summer without a mosquito bite or grab an apple as you head out of the house, just remember, a bat likely lent a helping hand somewhere along the line.
It is also important to note the message at the end of the video: never handle a bat unless you are professionally trained or have consulted a professional. This bat is in the care of rescuers and in no circumstance do we encourage people to handle bats in this way, unless they are appropriately trained.
