Queen Camilla Adopts Rescue Dog from Shelter in Royal Portrait Debut

Queen Camilla has introduced the world to her latest family member—an adorable rescue pup named Moley. The 77-year-old royal posed with the young dog in a new portrait released by Buckingham Palace, celebrating her new companion ahead of her appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show.

According to Simon Perry of People, Moley was adopted from London’s Battersea Dogs & Cats Home earlier this year, shortly after the death of Camilla’s beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Beth. The Queen affectionately described Moley as “mischievous” and explained the name came from his mole-like appearance. His heritage? A “bit of everything,” though his mother is part Jack Russell.

The Queen’s portrait with Moley comes just as she and King Charles are set to visit the Chelsea Flower Show, where a special dog-themed garden awaits. The garden features shaded lawns and a path made from engraved bricks bearing the names of royal rescue dogs, including Moley, Beth, and Bluebell. The tribute will live on after the show at Battersea, where Camilla serves as patron.

This royal nod to dog adoption shines a spotlight on the importance of choosing rescue animals over breeders. Moley’s story is a gentle reminder that even the royals go the rescue route—and their choice can inspire thousands to do the same.
