4 Neglected Puppies Were Close to Death in a High-Kill Shelter – But Then This Happened!

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

A litter of four black puppies was recently left in a high kill shelter in Texas, surrendered to an easily predictable future – or rather to no future at all. In high kill animal shelters, dogs and cats are killed daily due to lack of room and bleak adoption prospects. Sick animals are the ones to be subjected to euthanasia first.

This group of abandoned puppies were high on the list, as they were all sick and one had a broken femur. Thankfully, because of the determination of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, they are now safe and out of the shelter receiving medical treatment.

According to the rescue group, “a hundred puppies are killed daily,” at this particular shelter.

The puppies are all sick and in pain. Their condition made it almost impossible for them to survive in the shelter –  especially since their care would be incredibly costly.

Fortunately, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC stepped in and decided to save them. The rescuers convinced their San Antonio Vet Partner to admit all four dogs and provide them with immediate medical treatment.

The puppies’ condition, as suspected, turned out to be very serious. They are infested with ticks and fleas. They were also anemic, emaciated, weak, and suffering from severe skin infections. The puppy with a severely fractured femur and leg will also require surgery.

It’s so heartbreaking to know that someone could have done this to these animals, but rescuers are dedicated to doing everything to help the puppies recover and finally know what being healthy and happy is like!

You can make a donation to the puppies’ medical care via the rescue’s website, PayPal, or mail. To learn more about Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, click here.

    1. We need an ethic that is capable of stopping the violence:

"All things breathing, all things existing, all living beings whatever, would not be slain or treated with violence, or insulted, or tortured or driven away. This is the pure unchanging eternal law, which the wise ones who know the world have proclaimed…" Jain Acharanga Sutra

"All beings with two, three, four or five senses in fact, all creation know individually pleasure and displeasure, pain, terror and sorrow. ALL are full of fears which come from all directions. And yet there exist people who would cause greater pain to them…Some kill animals for sacrifice, some for their skin, flesh, blood, feathers, teeth or tusks;…Some kill them intentionally and some unintentionally. Some kill because they have been previously injured by them…and some because they expect to be injured. He who harms animals has not understood or renounced deeds of sin…He who understands the nature of sin against animals is called a Sage." Jain Acharanga Sutra

  1. How is possible that it is legal to have kill shelters in a nation which claims to love dogs?

In India where there is a kind ethic called ahimsa: non-violence to any living being…. it is against the law to kill any dog for any reason other than excruciating pain for an untreatsble condition.

Perhaps the difference lies in the judeo.christian ethic of dominion, which boasts of human supremacy and puts man above the animals, with this status is granted the right to destroy animal lives with moral impunity.
