In 2009, Susie, a beloved pitbull mix, was found in a park in North Carolina covered in maggots, and horrifically beaten and burned. After she was examined by local veterinarians, they discovered that she had been left in that condition for weeks. She was missing teeth, burned, and her jaw was broken. Susie went on to help pass North Carolina legislation that increased the penalties for animal cruelty. She even won the Hero Dog Award from the Humane Society. Unfortunately, Susie recently passed away.

North Carolina is ranked incredibly low for states with good animal protection. North Carolina needs to take steps to increase animal welfare in Susie’s honor! The legislature can add things to Susie’s Law to achieve this, including adding mental health evaluation or treatment for abusers as well as a ban on animal ownership for people convicted of felony animal cruelty.
Sign this petition to tell North Carolina legislators to increase animal welfare in the state and fight against animal cruelty in Susie’s honor!
