Petition: Protect The Once Extinct Somali Elephant Shrew

The Somali elephant shrew was once declared extinct due to a data deficiency, but now it has been spotted again in Djibouti!

After researchers heard about a sighting that sounded like it might be a Somali elephant shrew, they investigated by offering sweet peanut butter treats and they were able to spot 12 of them living happily together. There is still hope in protecting this species from extinction, but we need the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to act quickly to collect data so that we can create a research-based Conservation plan.

The research project in which the Somali elephant shrew was found was indeed a great start, but we need a lot more research so that we can protect them this time and make sure they do not go nearly extinct again.
