Thousands of chickens in a factory farm shed

Costco is one of the largest membership-based grocers and prides itself on selling low-price meats which includes cheap hot dogs and whole rotisserie chicken meals sold for just $4.99 apiece. However, all this comes with a price. A new lawsuit alleges that Costco violates Iowa and Nebraska livestock welfare laws.

A 2021 hidden camera investigation by an Animal rights group, Mercy for Animals revealed that Costco violated the laws by breeding chickens that “unnaturally” grow too fast, and become so big they can’t stand up to reach food or water. Tragically, their already short lives end up being cut even shorter.

Top executives are aware of the ongoing mistreatment of chickens and other animals but have sadly disregarded them. Despite the piling evidence, Costco refused to address the concerns and instead put out a statement claiming that they are committed to maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, and humane processes.

A deeper look into the lives of factory-farmed animals reveals that we have created a huge prison system for animals where they are no longer considered sentient beings, capable of feelings, thoughts, and pain, but instead are treated as products on an assembly line from the moment they are born to the moment they are murdered. Sign this petition to demand that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigate Costco and its chicken suppliers, and hold them all accountable!
