NEW ORLEANS - MAR 24: Homeless people prepare to spend the night under a bridge, March 24, 2009 in New Orleans. 200 homeless live in the compound

Just days before the Super Bowl, an appalling act took place in New Orleans. Over 100 unhoused individuals were forcibly removed from their homes, threatened with arrest, and transported to a distant, inadequate warehouse. This action, orchestrated under the direction of Governor Jeff Landry and carried out by the Louisiana State Police, occurred amidst severe winter conditions. The facility, lacking essential amenities such as heating and proper bedding, cost Louisiana taxpayers over $17 million—a staggering misuse of funds that could have provided stable, long-term housing solutions.

Sign the petition now to demand that Governor Jeff Landry and the Louisiana State Legislature provide reparations to those affected by this inhumane treatment. Help them rebuild their lives after enduring such unnecessary hardship.

Nearly two weeks later, many of these individuals still have not recovered their personal belongings, including vital medications and identification documents. It’s time to hold the state accountable and ensure that funds are used to Support, not displace, vulnerable populations.

Sign the petition now to call for justice and reparations for the unhoused of New Orleans. Demand a change in how funds are utilized to truly assist those in need and prevent further instances of such cruel treatment.
