Polar bears will be wiped out by the end of the century unless more is done to slow down the warming of the planet. We are in desperate need of aggressive climate change mitigation. As ice melts and the planet warms, these incredible animals become increasingly at risk of extinction. These poor animals don’t understand that their habitat is disappearing. They don’t know why this is happening, or what to do about it.

Churchill, Manitoba is a small town in Canada where hundreds of polar bears pass by each year, starting in September and lasting through November, on their migration path. The people there have done great work to make sure the bears and humans coexist in relative safety and diminish risks by removing food sources that may attract bears, implementing a bear spotting hotline, and more. However, experts say that ice is breaking up earlier in the season, meaning bears are forced to return to land weeks earlier than normal and have a smaller window for hunting. In recent years, polar bears have lost nearly a total of 12 days of ice on either end of the season.

This annual migration has become an ideal destination for thousands of tourists each year who want to witness these bears up close. Conservation officers even transport some Polar Bears to a holding facility known by locals as the “polar bear jail”—until they can be released onto the sea ice, according to a news source. We can prevent human and bear interactions, thus protecting everyone. But the people at the forefront of this effort need funding. Sign the petition if you think the Canadian government should be helping to fund these efforts!

  1. Polar bears are beautiful animals and they face a lot of threats mostly the climate change, but also trophy hunting and oil drilling are putting threats to these beautiful animals. Trophy hunting on Polar bears and oil drilling should be banned forever so we can protect these beautiful white beasts and save the Arctic.
