Opossums are fascinating animals – they have incredibly strong immune systems, thanks to which pit vipers’ venom does not effect them much at all, their babies can use their tails to dangle from trees upside-down, not to mention these marsupials’ dramatic talents manifest in their famous ability to “play dead” when they feel threatened. Despite all this, opossums are often considered dirty and better to be avoided (in a good case scenario) or eliminated (in a bad one).
Luckily, there are many people who can see beyond that harmful bad reputation. One of those people is Lexi, a young girl who together with her mom recently saved ten little opossum babies! It all started when they spotted an adult opossum lying dead on the side of the road with her tiny babies crawling around helplessly. While her mom watched for traffic, Lexi stepped in and gathered all the baby opossums to save their lives.
This fantastic rescue action saved a dozen little lives and is a great proof that there are people who appreciate and understand that every life is worth saving. Brave rescues like this one are incredibly important – but it is also essential to take care of one’s own safety and the well-being of the animal in question. Whenever possible in case of an animal rescue, remember to always consult a professional first!
The babies are now being cared for at the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center by its dedicated team. To visit the organization’s website and learn more about their work, click here.

GREAT WORK TO HELP OTHERS .
nice work, Lexi. I would be very proud of her if she was my daughter. Thanks for the good parenting as well mom (and dad I am guessing).. You have taught your doughtier compassion and that is a wonderful thing.
Amazing job! It always gives me hope to see our young people stepping up and doing the jobs adults should be doing.
