Opossums may not be the animal you immediately think of when you picture a “cute” animal. These baby opossums, however, are fighting the “opossums are creepy” claim. And, they are doing so in the most adorable way possible. This group of five sibling opossums is thoroughly enjoying their bowl of delicious watermelon. If everyone liked fruit this much, we would be a much healthier world!
Opossums are, sadly, regularly hit by cars in North America. These animals are notorious for playing “dead” when they are scared. This unfortunately causes them to collapse when a car drives by, making it likely they are going to get hit. What many don’t realize, however, is that because Opossums are marsupials, they carry their young in a pouch. When the mother opossum is hit by a car, the babies in her pouch often survive and are, thus, orphaned.
These animals are anything but creepy; they are the cutest marsupials in North America (and not only because they are the only marsupials in North American).
NOTE: As an important note, do not try to help wildlife of any sort unless you are trained. Find a local wildlife rehabber/rescuer or veterinarian ASAP, or call a rescue hotline. Here are some that might help!”
His momma and siblings were all dead on the road and he would have been dead too with the next car or 2 as he was panicked running all over the road. I had the help of a good friend that gave me info to give him the nutrition he needed and he knew that I saved his little butt. He was the ambassador for all Opossums!
