According to OffshoreWIND.biz, all five US offshore wind farms that were paused by federal stop work orders in late December 2025 have now been cleared to resume construction, after developers won preliminary injunctions in court.

The latest decision covers Ørsted’s Sunrise Wind, a 924 megawatt project planned off New York. A federal judge in Washington, DC granted the injunction on February 2, letting impacted work restart while the lawsuit continues. Ørsted said it will resume construction as soon as possible, with safety first, to deliver affordable and reliable power to New York.

The stop work orders were set for 90 days while the federal government reviewed national security concerns. The public explanation referenced possible radar interference. However, developers and state officials argue the concern was never clearly specified, and they point out that offshore wind projects already face years of federal review, including input from defense agencies.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has also sued, arguing the projects were carefully reviewed and that the sudden shift lacked a clear justification. The affected projects include Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Commercial, Empire Wind 1, Revolution Wind, Sunrise Wind, and Vineyard Wind 1. Vineyard Wind 1 was reportedly very close to completion when the pause hit, and Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind restarted quickly after its own injunction.

For a climate minded environment agenda, this restart matters. Offshore wind can cut fossil fuel Pollution while supporting local jobs and grid upgrades. At the same time, projects still need strong safeguards for ocean wildlife and healthy fisheries, because clean power should not come at nature’s expense.

If you want a healthier planet and better public health, Support policies that speed up renewables and make plant based living easier, too. Small choices add up.
