New ABC Documentary Raises Questions About Our Affection For Dolphins

The revealing film has reignited public calls for action, leading to a fresh campaign by Action for Dolphins, a non-profit organization committed to protecting dolphins worldwide.

The documentary highlights the detrimental impact of human intervention on dolphin survival. Dolphins who participate in feeding programs experience dramatically reduced exploration and socialization areas, negatively affecting their survival, especially in the face of severe weather events. Shockingly, dolphin mothers who are hand-fed tend to provide less care for their offspring, which further endangers these incredible creatures’ survival and wellbeing.

Hannah Tait, CEO of Action for Dolphins, emerges as a critical voice in the film. She contends that these feeding programs prioritize tourism revenue over the welfare of dolphins. She criticizes the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions for going against their own Management Plan by encouraging pre-weaned calves into the Monkey Mia program.
