Hurricane Harvey is forcing many families to evacuate to emergency shelters, where pets are not permitted due to possible allergic reactions from other people at the shelters. As a result, animal guardians are unwillingly relinquishing their beloved pets to animal shelters.
Thankfully, many dedicated animal rescue groups and organizations are on the ground helping the animal and human victims alike. One group is MuttNation, founded by singer and songwriter, Miranda Lambert. The nonprofit fights against dog homelessness and animal cruelty. They do this through spaying and neutering, adoption, education, transportation, medical treatments, and more.
And just when we thought we couldn’t love Miranda any more than we already do, People reports that she is on the ground with MuttNation, saving dogs displaced by Hurricane Harvey. Amazing!
MuttNation is picking up dogs from shelters in Houston to help make room for the influx of dogs.
MuttNation rescued over 70 dogs, and the rescue team had yet another big day when they picked up another 99 pets. “40 dogs and 38 cats rescued from Houston Humane and 21 pets from Baytown City Shelter!! Our rescued angels are being checked out by our friends at Texas A&M University before leaving Houston!” MuttNation shared in an Instagram post.
“My roommates tonight sure are cute! Mama and newborns that were born this morning,” the Grammy-award winner shared on her Instagram. Thank you for saving this sweet family, Miranda!
MuttNation is urging people in Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee to drop off pet supplies (dog/cat food, dog/cat treats, toys, blankets, towels) at various locations.
For more information on MuttNation, visit their website. If you are unable to donate pet supplies, you can make a financial contribution to help MuttNation continue their life-saving work. Please share this with your network to help gain more support for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
