A TikTok video of a dog named Leonard is breaking hearts on TikTok. The video shows Leonard after an adoption event where he was the lone shelter dog not to find a forever home.
@dog_momdsm Leonard is a sweet boy. He got loaded in a van by 8am to find his forever home. Many people petted and played with him but no family. Please help Leonard❤️❤️❤️adoptdontshop #shelterdog #shelterlife #pleaseadoptleonard#petsmart #greatdog arl-iowa@Animal Rescue League of Iowa
The video opens with a shot of several empty crates. Slowly, the camera pans to the only occupied one. Leonard stares mournfully from inside the crate. His sad face is gut-wrenching.
At the adoption event, three of the four dogs found forever homes. Leonard was the only dog to be returning to the shelter. The caption reveals that although lots of people “petted and played” with him, he still ended the event no closer to a forever home.
Viewers were heartbroken by the video. Many offered words of encouragement to the shelter dog. One person wrote, “This breaks my heart. You’re worthy of love too buddy. Hang on the right one will come!”
Luckily, Leonard’s story has a happy ending! An update shared in the comments section reveals that the shelter dog found a home shortly after his story was shared.
