Lily Allen is under fire after revealing she returned her pet dog to an animal shelter due to its behavior. The 39-year-old singer admitted on her podcast, “Miss Me?” that she gave up her dog, Mary, after the animal chewed up her family’s passports, creating a major logistical headache during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Allen explained that the dog ate not only her passport but also the passports of her daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Sam Cooper. The passports contained important visas, and replacing them was a costly and time-consuming process. Allen expressed her frustration, saying the incident kept her children from visiting their father in England for several months.
The singer’s decision to return the dog sparked widespread criticism on social media, with users labeling her actions as “cold” and “irresponsible.” Critics argued that the dog’s behavior was a result of poor training, not the dog’s fault. One user even stated that the dog was “better off” without Allen. Despite the backlash, Allen has announced plans to adopt another dog, a Chihuahua mix, in the coming weeks.
