Sid, a German shepherd mix, has spent much of his life at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter on Long Island. Arriving as a puppy in 2017, Sid, now seven years old, has been adopted twice, only to be returned due to behavioral issues. Despite this, Sid remains hopeful that his forever family will soon find him.
Shelter staff and volunteers have dedicated themselves to helping Sid overcome his challenges. Common reasons for owners surrendering dogs, like Sid, include behaviors such as jumping, mouthing, house soiling, excessive barking, and poor leash manners. Over time, Sid has made significant progress thanks to the consistent Support from the shelter team.
A recent Instagram post from @adopt_ky_and_friends highlighted Sid’s journey, noting that he has spent 1,244 days in the shelter. The post emphasized Sid’s improvement and expressed the hope that he would find a home before reaching 2,000 days at the shelter. The caption read: “Sid has been doing great here at the shelter working with his shelter buddies on his behavioral needs.” However, he still needs a home that will continue his training.
Sid’s ideal home would be adult-only and pet-free, ensuring he gets the attention and care he needs. The Instagram video accompanying the post resonated with many, garnering over 12,000 views, 1,224 likes, and 230 comments from supportive viewers.
