When Wildlife SOS and the Forest Department heard about the emergency, they rushed over to the rescue. The villagers lowered a metal plank down the well in the meantime to give the leopard a place to stay afloat before help arrived.

When the rescue team finally arrived, they lowered a trap cage down into the well, and the scared and distressed leopard immediately climbed inside to safety.

Kartick Satyanarayan, CEO and co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, “This is the second incident this week where we have assisted the Forest Department with the timely rescue of a leopard from an uncovered well. The issue cannot be taken lightly. It is not just leopards, a species protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, that are vulnerable to these wells, but also several other species that may fall in accidentally, with potentially fatal results.”
