Kitten Born With 2 Heads Is Thriving Thanks to the Dedication of Her Caretakers

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

Bettie Bee, a baby kitten born in Eastern Cape, South Africa, is one in a million. Although her mother is a perfectly typical kitty and so are her two siblings, Bettie Bee herself is extremely unique. She is a diprosopus cat, also called a “Janus cat,” which means that she was born with two faces. The kitten stunned everyone when she came into the world and her uniqueness raised many concerns about how she was going to survive at all. Now, however, Bettie Bee is already ten days old, doing well, and, to top it off, she is winning the affection of people all around the world.

Because of the unusual needs of the baby kitten, her guardian brought her to a cat rescuer specialized in the task of caring for special-need kittens, Newsweek reports.

As the tube-feeding of Bettie Bee began, the rescuer found that both of the baby’s mouths were functional in that they led to the stomach.

Although she was an extremely at-risk kitten, Bettie Bee started to grow and gain weight very nicely. “She is thriving, growing like a normal kitten,” her rescuer says. When she is a little bigger, she will undergo further medical examination.

Many people became instantly interested in the special kitten’s case and wished to see her progress. To share it, her rescuer made a Facebook page dedicated especially to the little survivor.

Two-faced cats are extremely rare and many of them struggle with health issues. But there are also those that live long and happy lives, just like your regular felines – for example, the famous Frank and Louie who lived to be 15 years old.

The amazing Bettie Bee not only survived as a newborn Janus cat, she began to thrive and develop just as she should. Hopefully, she will keep on growing strong and as healthy as possible and we will have the chance to see her become a beautiful and one of a kind adult cat!
