White House coronavirus task force lead Dr. Anthony Fauci, who heads up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, had dire warnings during a Senate hearing on June 30. He said the United States could rise to 100,000 new cases a day if the government doesn’t act to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
“We are now having 40-plus thousand new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around and so I am very concerned,” Fauci told the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee during a hearing. “We’re going to continue to be in a lot of trouble, and there’s going to be a lot of hurt if that does not stop.” The news came after the United States reported its highest number of cases, 40,000 in a single day, on June 26.
When asked if the pandemic was under control, Fauci replied, “I am not satisfied with what’s going on because we are going in the wrong direction if you look at the curves of the new cases, so we’ve really got to do something about that and we need to do it quickly,” adding, “Clearly we are not in total control right now.” He hesitated to provide a number of deaths that the country will see before the pandemic ends, but said, “It’s going to be very disturbing, I will guarantee you that.”
Fauci stressed that masks were part of the way to stop the spread of the coronavirus. He said”we recommend masks for everyone” and “masks are extremely important.” Fauci told the hearing, “Masks are extremely important,” Fauci said, adding, “There’s no doubt that wearing masks protects you and gets you to be protected. So it’s people protecting each other. Anything that furthers the use of masks, whether it’s giving out free masks or any other mechanism, I am thoroughly in favor of.”

Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.
