More impressive news coming from Beyond Meat, the California-based food technology company behind the popular Beyond Burger! PHW Groupe, one of Europe’s largest poultry producers, has partnered with Beyond Meat to bring their plant-based products to the European market, starting with Germany.
“Over many months, we have been working hard to select a strategic partner for our international expansion. I am very pleased that with the PHW Group we have found a long-term partner who has extensive expertise in the European market with regard to distribution, logistics, and costumer and consumer engagement,” said Ethan Brown, CEO and Founder of Beyond Meat.
Starting with this market makes sense considering the number of Germans eating a plant-based diet has DOUBLED over the past decade, according to a recent survey by Handelsblatt Global. And this isn’t the first time PHW Groupe has shown an avid interest in alternatives to industrialized meat; the company also invested in SuperMeat, an Israeli food-technology startup that makes lab-cultured chicken meat.
A plant-based or “clean” meat future is promising when you take into account how factory farming is killing our planet due to air Pollution, deforestation, and carbon emissions, just to name a few. But we can all do something to help, and it starts on our plates. A recent study showed that if everyone in the U.S. ate plant-based, we could cut emissions by 28 percent. Another study showed that if American’s stopped eating meat, we could feed an additional 350 million people. Thanks to companies such as Beyond Meat, eating with the planet in mind has never been easier!
Ethan Brown’s vision for Beyond Meat is clear: he wants to transform our broken food system. Want to hear it from Ethan himself? Check out this recent episode of #EatForThePlanet with Nil Zacharias:
