Esther the Wonder Pig is no stranger to the limelight. The world famous pig has been a representative and a symbol of hope for pigs and other farmed animals, showing that they are not unlike the other animals we consider beloved family pets. Unfortunately, Esther fell ill with cancer last year, but thanks to the persistent efforts of her two guardians, Derek Walter and Steve Jenkins, she was able to receive life-saving care that has her essentially cancer-free! Now Walter and Jenkins have purchased the world’s largest CT Scanner for OVC to be used by any animal, especially large ones.
On Esther’s Facebook page, they state: “This scanner is going to completely change the landscape for large animals here in Canada, allowing medical teams to do and see things that were previously impossible. There’s also already discussion to use the scanner for a clinical trial in the treatment of prostate cancer in dogs! Large animals aren’t the only ones that will benefit from this amazing piece of technology.”
They continue, “We’re so honored, and incredibly humbled to be part of something so monumental. We can’t wait to see the groundbreaking work they do with this thing.”
Thank you so much, Derek and Steve, for continuing to be inspirations to animal advocates around the world. This generous contribution to animal healthcare is much appreciated and needed. May the lives of more animals like Esther be saved as a result of the scanner.
