This heartbreaking video shows a sweet dog who was recently dropped off, at the Almost Home Animal Haven by Southfield Animal Control in Michigan. The dog, now named Stormy, was covered in gashes, cuts, and bruises, so it is believed he was used as a bait dog for the cruel fighting industry.

Gina Perry, assistant manager at the shelter stated, “We believe he was used as a bait dog, he does have many gashes that look like he was cut with a knife.” This is a practice often done by dog fighters so that the other dogs smell the blood and are instigated to fight.

When the Southfield Animal Control found Stormy, he was hanging by his neck inside a garage where he was unable to lie down and conditions were inhumane. Nevertheless, as seen in the video, Stormy remains a sweet and affectionate dog who clearly just wants to be loved. There are several other dogs that remain inside the home of the people that owned Stormy and animal control is doing all they can to remove the other dogs while the Southfield Police Department will determine whether Stormy’s former owner can be arrested.

Stormy will be undergoing emergency care and though it will be a long road, the caretakers at Almost Home Animal Haven are hopeful that hewill make a full recovery. According to Breanne Palmerini of WXYZ news the shelter named him Stormy because he is fighter, “He is going to fight the storm, get passed the storm, and come out on the other side.”

Almost Home Animal Haven is a never-kill shelter and is funded by donations. If you would like to make a donation to help Stormy and dogs like him, click here.
