Great Pyrenees dogs are typically known as loyal guardians who have a temperament that can be described as strong-willed, affectionate, gentle, and fearless. This description couldn’t ring any truer when it comes to Odin the Great Pyrenees and his heroic actions taken to save eight rescue goats.

The Hendel family of Sonoma County recently lost everything in the Tubbs Fire that ravaged Northern California. Thanks to Odin however, this story is about what they didn’t lose – their adorable group of bottle-fed rescue goats.

With only minutes to escape the quickly ascending flames, the family had no choice but to load up what they could and run for safety, leaving the goats behind. Odin however, refused to leave despite the family’s efforts to move him. There was no doubt that Odin and the goats would perish in the fire … but the Hendel’s were in for a BIG surprise.

When the family returned to the property several days later, they found Odin and ALL eight goats safe and sound with minor injuries.

Odin was the epitome of brave and although tired and weak, he seems pretty proud of himself. We are so proud of you too Odin!

Odin was ecstatic to be reunited with his sister, Tessa.

The Hendel family is receiving loads of love and Support from family and friends but they still need your help on behalf of their beautiful animals. With all the structures on their property destroyed including their pumphouse and barn, they have no shelter or freshwater supply for the animals. Please share this incredible story and keep all the people and animals affected by the Northern California firestorms in your thoughts. Lives have been lost but we can celebrate survival stories such as this one by supporting and donating. To Donate to the Hendel families rebuilding campaign click here.
