With six to eight million animals entering U.S. shelters every year, rescuers work around the clock to ensure all of the animals in their care have a warm bed, food, and water. Even still, the loud, scary noises of the shelter can be terrifying for animals. And if you need proof, just watch the above video shared by Trio Animal Foundation.

The video shows an absolutely terrified Pit Bull mix. The dog, understandably, doesn’t know if the people in the shelter are there to help him or hurt him. The rescuers gently pet him and offer him food, but he locks up in fear. Thankfully, this pup is about to leave the scary shelter and is on his way to a new life! With their campaign to save 30 dogs before Christmas, Trio Animal Foundation has pulled this dog from the shelter and will give him a second chance.

Please always spay and neuter your pets and urge your friends and family to do the same. Fostering an animal is also a great way to help end the pet homelessness crisis. For more ways on how you can get involved to help save animals, click here.
