Chinese medicine is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries to heal the body. Toxic ingredients can often be hiding in some of the most common household items, such as laundry detergent, candles, and cooking oils.
Laundry detergent can contain petroleum, phthalates, phosphates, chlorine, optical brighteners, synthetic fragrances, and dyes, which can cause skin irritation and may even be carcinogenic. Check out 10 Eco-Friendly Detergents Easy On Your Skin and the Environment!
Many synthetic fragrances in candles also contain phthalates, which are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more durable. As candles burn, phthalates are released into the air and can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin, and ultimately enter the bloodstream. Instead of buying artificially-scented candles, consider making your own natural candle, or diffusing essential oils.
Most people use cooking oil in all sorts of dishes, but don’t know that some can actually be toxic! Canola oil for example is often extracted using chemical solvents such as hexane, which can leave residues in the oil and enter your body. Luckily, there are plenty of healthier alternatives to choose from.
