Male cows in the dairy industry are usually destined for one of three fates. The majority of bulls are sold to beef operations where they will be slaughtered. Other bulls who are deemed superior or born from the best bulls are kept for breeding purposes. In the case of the two bulls in this video, they were simply left on the streets, injured and in poor condition.
Fortunately, for theses two gentle giants, Guardians of the Voiceless works to save animals big and small. The Guardians report that most of the cows and bulls they come to rescue have injured hooves that are also infected. Even with the challenges of caring for such large animals, they offer these innocent souls a second chance. Guardians of the Voiceless will continue to care for both bulls until they are completely healed.
Most people are aware of the sad fate of female cows in the dairy industry but for male cows, the abuse is largely unknown. Male cows that are not sold to beef operations and are kept for breeding endure about 10 years of abuse until their semen quality declines. The territorial animals are kept in close quarters with usually only about two to three feet between them. They are typically tethered tightly by face harnesses so they can only move inches to reach their feeding troughs. For breeding bulls, this sad quality of life will still ultimately end in slaughter.
Knowing this, we couldn’t be more thankful that this organization stepped in to rescue these poor animals. To Donate to Guardians of the Voiceless click here.
