The monthly beach cleanups organized by Pier 2 Pier Beach Cleans in Brighton, England are not your typical events. Each cleanup serves as a wonderful example of people teaming up to clean the shore from the dangerous waste that can pollute the environment and threaten wildlife. But, if you see the participants, you will notice that they all have headphones on and are swaying to the same rhythm on the sandy dance floor – since the cleanup is also … a silent disco.

Plastic waste kills more than a million seabirds and over 100,000 marine mammals every year. A piece of plastic lying on the beach may seem like nothing much to us, but to those animals, it can be fatal! It is so great to see this organization and others making cleanups fun and getting whole communities involved!
