A new study may have uncovered a powerful secret to slowing the aging process—and it doesn’t require expensive treatments or extreme diets. According to SciTechDaily, researchers in the DO-HEALTH trial found that taking just 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acids daily, paired with vitamin D and light strength training, can slow biological aging by several months in older adults.

The study tracked 777 participants aged 70+ over three years and used “epigenetic clocks”—tools that measure DNA methylation changes—to estimate their biological age. The biggest surprise? Even omega-3s on their own had a noticeable impact. But the combo of omega-3s, vitamin D (2,000 IU), and three 30-minute home workouts a week worked best to dial back the aging clock.

Professor Heike Bischoff-Ferrari of the University of Zurich, who led the study, emphasized that each of these interventions works through different biological pathways, and when used together, they pack a bigger punch. While the study focused on older adults in Switzerland, researchers plan to include participants across Europe for more diverse insights.
