President-elect Joe Biden is already taking action on the coronavirus pandemic. He named 13 health experts to a panel of advisors to help him tackle the coronavirus once he enters office in January. He also urged Americans to wear a mask as the number of hospitalizations and infection rate continues to climb.
The task force includes doctors, experts, and health officials with experience in both public health and government. The chairs are former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler, and Yale University’s Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith. The other members Dr. Luciana Borio, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations, and Dr. Zeke Emanuel, one of the architects of the Affordable Care Act and an ex-Obama health adviser. The force also includes Rick Bright, a whistleblower in the Trump administration who was dismissed after he gave early warnings about the pandemic.
“The advisory board will help shape my approach to managing the surge in reported infections; ensuring vaccines are safe, effective, and distributed efficiently, equitably, and free; and protecting at-risk populations,” Biden said in a statement, “Dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is one of the most important battles our administration will face, and I will be informed by science and by experts.”
