When a new addition to an elephant family made their adorable appearance at the Londolozi Private Game Reserve in South Africa, the proud herd rallied around as the little one tried out their sea legs.

According to caretakers at Londolozi, “We watched the elephants perform the dance of birth where they pirouetted in tight circles around themselves and waltzed around each other to the music of their rumbling. As is typical of elephants, there was a great ceremony to the occasion and the herd were there to support the mother after her 22-month long pregnancy.”

The video’s description goes on to say, “As they jostled around the baby I kept stressing that it was about to be trampled, but their movements were gentle and controlled and the baby bounced amongst them on new-found feet.”

Elephant family bonds are incredibly strong, a fact that this video helps to sweetly and plainly illustrate. Happy Birthday little friend! You’re gonna be pirouetting with the parade in no time!
