A woman launching an innovative afro hair comb hopes to inspire more young black women to enter into the engineering scene.

Youmna Mouhamad received a fellowship from Royal Academy of Engineering to help her design her afro hair comb.

The comb is specifically designed for afro hair and has the ability to condition natural afro hair in an easier way. Making caring for afro hair much easier which can encourage young black women to embrace their natural hair.

Youmna said, “I would have loved a young me to have been taught by a black woman. I want to be part of the change so that a young person that comes after me is in a place where they feel much more heard and much more accepted.”

Youmna got the idea for the afro hair comb when she was a nanny for a young girl. She described the process of washing and conditioning the girl’s hair as a painful and tearful experience.

The comb is designed to make detangling and conditioning a much less painful process. Making caring for natural afro hair much easier and pain-free.

Youmna said, “My huge passion in personal development is actually empowering other people.”
