$15,000 Reward Offered for Information Leading to Arrest of Wolf Abuser

Transfer of money from hand to hand

The appalling abuse of a young, female wolf has sparked swift action from animal welfare organizations and concerned individuals. The Center for a Humane Economy has announced a $15,000 reward for any individual who provides additional evidence to police and prosecutors about Cody Roberts, the perpetrator of this heinous act, resulting in his being sentenced to at least one year in prison.

Reports detail the disturbing incident in which Roberts allegedly ran over and crushed an adolescent female wolf with his snowmobile. Subsequently, he bound her mouth with tape, fitted her with a shock collar, and subjected her to torment for the amusement of himself, friends, and family at a Wyoming establishment.

Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy, emphasized the urgency of bringing Roberts to justice, stating, “Tens of millions of people are pleading with us to do all within our power to see that Cory Roberts is arrested for cruelty and sentenced to meaningful time in prison.”

The Center for a Humane Economy, in collaboration with Animal Wellness Action, has provided a legal analysis indicating that no legal exemption shields Roberts from being charged under the state’s animal cruelty statute, which allows for felony-level penalties. Sublette County authorities have initiated a case, and crucial information regarding Roberts’ actions has been shared with law enforcement. Disturbing images and videos depicting the injured animal and Roberts’s actions have been brought to light, further underscoring the severity of the situation. Last week, Pacelle gave a name to the young wolf: Theia, in honor of the Greek goddess of light.

The announcement of the reward has garnered significant Support, with individuals like John M. Barr stepping forward to contribute. Barr emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and condemning acts of animal torture, expressing his heartbreak at witnessing Theia’s suffering.

As efforts to secure justice for Theia intensify, the Center for a Humane Economy is not only demanding the successful prosecution of Roberts but also advocating for meaningful reforms to protect wolves. These reforms include banning the use of snowmobiles to run down animals, abolishing predator zones where wolves can be wrongly killed, prohibiting the use of hunting dogs, and banning wire snares and steel-jawed leghold traps.

Furthermore, Dr. Jim Keen, Director of Veterinary Sciences for the Center for a Humane Economy and Animal Wellness Action, will testify at a Wyoming Game and Fish Commission hearing to provide expert insight and recommendations for legal, administrative, and legislative remedies.

In a similar vein, Animal Wellness Action recently issued a $2,000 reward to Sarah Looney, whose information led to the arrest of an individual responsible for the cruel killing of a puppy.
