The horrific madness started when Trump invoked the Defense Production Act. He insisted that meat-processing facilities had to stay open, while deadly outbreaks of coronavirus were spreading through these plants, infecting record numbers of workers. To make matters worse, he forced governmental agencies to halt protections for meat-packing workers, reduced standards for facility inspections, and loosened enforcement of environmental Pollution laws for factory farms. In July 2020, the USDA granted poultry facilities the right to turn diseased chickens into meat for human consumption.

Bloomberg has stated that in July, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service accepted a petition from the National Chicken Council that allowed slaughterhouses to process birds infected with Avian Leukosis, which is a condition similar to cancer in chickens. Not only are inspectors not required to examine the chickens for disease, but workers will simply be allowed to cut the tumors off the poor animals and continue as normal, says a news source. Sign this petition to demand that the U.S. Department of Agriculture do its job to protect the American people from unsafe and sickening foods.
