When starting a zero-waste journey, you may start to feel discouraged after realizing how many products contain toxic chemicals and wasteful packaging. Perfume, in particular, is one of the most toxic beauty products many people wear daily. The good news is, you can still smell good without exposing yourself to these harmful chemicals and you can spare the wasteful packaging in the process!

Making perfume is not as complicated as it sounds. It’s as easy as picking up a few ingredients and getting creative to come up with your signature scent!

What You’ll Need:

  • 2-3 Tbsp Oil – jojoba, almond, and grapeseed work great
  • 2 Tbsp Distilled Water
  • 6 Tbsp Vodka
  • 40-50 Drops of Essential Oils – such as lavender, rose, orange, sandalwood, eucalyptus

Once you’ve picked your signature scent combination, combine all the ingredients (except for the water) in a small container and lightly mix by tipping the bottle back and forth. Let your perfume sit for at least 2 days to ensure that your scent is strong and once you’re happy with the strength of the scent, add in the water and shake the mixture for about 1 minute. You can add your perfume to a rollerball, spray bottle, or old perfume container.
