Hundreds of grey reef sharks during our dive on Fakarava island. Feared sharks on the atoll in French Polynesia. Marine life in Pacific ocean. Sharks are trying catch a fish.

Sharks aren’t the villains we’ve been led to fear—they’re essential to the health of our oceans. Yet humans kill an estimated 274,000 sharks every single day, totalling around 100 million a year. Many species, including the great white and hammerhead, are now endangered.

Swimmer and UN “Patron of the Oceans” Lewis Pugh recently completed a 12-day swim around Martha’s Vineyard to spotlight shark Conservation. His message is urgent: we need more marine sanctuary zones to stop overfishing, habitat loss, and protect these apex predators.

Sharks regulate marine ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and even clean the ocean by feeding on dead or diseased animals. Without them, marine environments collapse. It’s time to change the narrative—from fear to protection.

Sign the petition now to urge U.S. Congress to act. Support more sanctuaries. Support ocean life. Support sharks.
