The Global Rewilding Alliance, an organization dedicated to rewilding and restoring ecosystems, has said that wild animals could be the answer to our problems. Bringing back more wild animals and diversity into ecosystems can slow the warming climate and help control Climate change.

This past weekend, March 20th, was national World Rewilding Day, and this year will be the most crucial to educate about the role wild animals play in the environment. Experts claim that bringing back wild animals like wolves and wildebeests to ecosystems could help even more than planting trees.
Just like planting different trees which need to be planted in the right place and the right species, the right animals also need to be introduced into the correct ecosystems to rebalance and maximize the carbon that can be stored.
Many herbivores, such as Highland cattle, can be used to graze and redistribute seeds and nutrients over areas to promote plant growth to help Climate change. Like with everything, it needs to be done in moderation, as overgrazing can damage the land.
Currently, we are overgrazing land that doesn’t need it. Most of the land on earth is occupied by livestock grown for meat consumption. This has led to an amount of livestock that is not good for the warming planet and healthy ecosystems need a wide range of different animal species and plant species. Eating a plant-based diet can help slow Climate change and save countless animals!

It’s estimated that if the North American boreal forests contained a good amount of wolves, moose, and trees, it could swallow up nearly 10 percent of the US carbon emissions. It’s important to remember that ocean animals matter just as much in this too. When whales eat prey in deep water, they release nutrients to the surface which promotes phytoplankton which also draws carbon dioxide down.
