Hotel Marcel in New Haven Connecticut is hoping to take the title of “greenest” hotel in America, according to TimeOut. The hotel will take over space in the Marcel Breuer building on the Long Wharf.
So what are the hotel’s environmental benefits? A local developer has purchased the building and plans to make a net-zero energy hotel and conference center. If it becomes net-zero, it would be the only one in the country and the only all-electric hotel in the United States.

Forbes reports that Hotel Marcel would produce its own electricity using a rooftop solar array and solar parking canopies. The solar setup would also power heat and hot water for the hotel.
Dutch East Design and Bruce Redman Becker are developing the hotel. Dutch East Design team shared, “We wanted to pay homage to the building and its iconic, historical nature, but at the same time, write a new chapter for the building and its role in the city.”
