Boris Johnson announced that Britain would keep its animal welfare standards in place even after it removes itself from the European Union (EU). The question came up amid fears that a trade deal would allow chlorinated washed chicken or hormone-treated beef into the country.
Johnson said in a statement, “Not only will we protect animal welfare standards, but we will be able on leaving the EU, as we have, … to increase our animal welfare standards.”There are 44 animal welfare laws in the United Kingdom are tied to EU laws and activists are asking them to be upheld even after Britain removes itself from the EU.
Conservatives want to “safeguard hight standards of animal welfare,” within the Brexit agreement for animal farming, as stated in their election.
