It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including shutting down the Santa Anita racetrack where over 30 horses have died in the past year and stopping eBay from allowing people to sell stuffed endangered animal “trophies.”

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Shut Down Santa Anita Racetrack Where Over 30 Horses Have Died in The Past Year!

Santa Anita Racetrack

Source: Now 30 Horses Have Died At This Famous Racetrack

Since December 2018, over 30 horses have died at the Santa Anita racetrack. As of Monday, September 30th, the count was at 32. Defenders of the cruel “sport” have blamed the weather or the soil, but experts were unable to find any problems with the soil at the track. Then, the racetrack was shut down for a while but immediately after opening with “new safety regulations,” the 23rd horse died. Sadly, the horses just keep on dying and while the “sport” is cruel and treats horses like commodities, there is clearly something especially wrong at this racetrack. Sign this petition to demand that it be shut down!

2. Ban the United Kingdom’s Badger Culling

Source: Nearly One-Fourth This Country’s Badger Population Will Be Killed This Year

The Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) allows an annual culling of badgers that began in 2012. This year they will allow up to 62,000 badgers to be slaughter. That is almost one-fourth of the UK’s badger population. The badgers aren’t just dying right away. They are suffering in a lot of pain for a long time before they finally die. If you want these badger culls to be banned, sign this petition!

The Thai government confiscated the tigers at the cruel exploitative tourist site, Tiger Temple, but 86 of those tigers recently died and there are still tigers suffering in captivity in Thailand. According to this petition, tiger parks have been steadily on the rise. There are more than 2,000 animals in the care of these 70 facilities. Sign this petition to demand that Thailand ban tiger captivity and send the tigers in these places to reputable sanctuaries.

4. Justice for Beloved Parrot Killed by a Hunter

Keeping parrots and other wils birds as pets is a controversial topic because it is known that it can contribute to the exotic bird trade. However, what happened to a man’s pet parrot named Rambo is still terrible. While we don’t condone “owning” parrots, we do know that Rambo’s human Joseph Verdyck allowed him to fly free for exercise and Rambo would return “home.” This is what Rambo was doing when a cruel hunter shot him out of the sky just for fun. The hunter told Verdyck: “it isn’t illegal to kill exotic birds in Belgium.” His dogs also treated Rambo’s body like a chew toy adding insult to injury. Sign this petition to ask Malle officials to prosecute the hunter and strip him of his hunting license.

A two-year-old girl tragically died in Islam after being bit by a rabid stray dog. Grand Mufti of Jordan, Sheik Khasawneh said on a popular radio show “that it’s permissible under Islam to kill a dog that’s attacking you, your children or your livestock.” Unfortunately, listeners have taken his words too seriously and have been slaughtering stray dogs. In the city of Karza alone, 800 dogs have been killed. People have been uploading videos and photos to social media of themselves shooting and poisoning animals. Ahmad al-Hasanat, secretary general of Dar al-Iftaa clarified by saying: “It is forbidden to kill dogs like this. If there are dogs living on the streets, no one is saying to kill them.” However, the killing has continued. Sign this petition asking Sheik Khasawneh to immediately clarify his statements and say that indiscriminate dog killing is NOT acceptable.

6. Ban Convicted Animal Abusers From Adopting Pets

There are only 15 states that have laws preventing animal abusers from adopting pets. Even then the laws aren’t necessarily great because the judge decides how long to ban them from adopting animals. It can be about five years and then the abuser can still adopt other animals. It should be illegal, though, for animal abusers to adopt animals in any state. They are just being given access to more animals they can hurt. Sign this petition to demand laws that prevent convicted abusers from getting close to animals.

7. Stop eBay From Allowing The Sale of Endangered Stuffed Animals

It’s bad enough that endangered animals are killed by cruel trophy hunters who think their lives are theirs to take and their bodies are “trophies,” but these hunters are actually using eBay to profit from their kills. eBay is a popular online marketplace that allows people to sell their belongings or products. Unfortunately, people who have killed endangered animals are now selling them as “stuffed trophies” for lots of money. This is obscene. Sign this petition to take these listings down and not allow them anymore!

8. Ban Wild Animal Circuses in Spain

Four autonomous communities in Spain (Catalonia, Balearic Islands, Galicia, and Murcia) have laws that prohibit the use of animals in circus shows. The rest of Spain should follow. A traveling circus called Roma Dola is bringing this issue to the forefront because of how terrible and abusive their show is. At this circus, Members of the Federation of Animal Protection Associations of Granada (Fegrapa) found semi-abandoned toothless dromedaries, ponies covered in dirt and insects, lions in small cages, and a hippo exposed to the sun. Sign this petition to ask Spanish authorities to ban the use of animals in circuses.

A zebra at the San Juan de Aragon Zoo in Mexico City is suffering from a skin infection and has been seen eating is how own feces, which means he is either starving or in psychological distress. The zebra is kept in a concrete room and has a severe injury on his neck. It’s clear he has been enduring abuse. Sign this petition to demand that the zebra be freed and sent to a sanctuary and this zoo be shut down!

10. Tell Travel Companies to Stop Promoting Cruel Civet Coffee Trade

The organization Moving Animals has brought to light the cruel realities of the civet coffee trade. Civet “cat-like” creatures are taken from their homes in the wild forests to be kept in captivity. Because they do not belong there, they suffer zoochosis, self-mutilating and chewing their tails down to the bone from anxiety and depression. All this is done to make “kopi luwak” also known as “cat poop coffee” because it’s made from coffee beans excreted by civet cats. Travel companies continue to promote civet coffee tours in Bali, Vietnam, and across Asia. Sign this petition to tell them to stop promoting this cruelty!
