Last week, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Niagara launched an awesome program called The Pupperoni Collaboration. They worked with Just Pizza in Amherst, NY to put flyers of adoptable dogs on pizza boxes and it inspired James Street Pizza Co. in Wisconsin to do the same. Soon enough this may be a nationwide movement. People will be enjoying their pizzas and dogs will be finding their forever homes.

Niagara SPCA coordinator Kathryn LaRussa says: “We’ve had a tremendous amount of interest and Support from the community and beyond since the story went viral on Friday. Many people want to order a pizza just to get the shelter dog photo. Other pizzerias have offered to put flyers on their pizza boxes, and so many people are tagging their friends and family.”

James Street Pizza Co. in Columbus, Wisconsin was definitely inspired to help animals too. Co-owner Amy Sandow told Channel 3000: “I have always had an extreme love for animals. A majority of my employees have dogs or cats that have rescued. As an animal loving pizzeria, it was a no-brainer that we were going to do this. We are open to putting any animals that need a forever home on our boxes. Rescues or shelters will need to contact me and will need to make the flyers.”

The people who are touched by the flyers on the pizza box will receive rewards if they happen to adopt a dog. Amherst’s Just Pizza & Wing Co. is giving a $50 voucher to people who adopt a dog on a flyer and James Street Pizza Co. is giving free pizza to those who adopt.

One dog named Larry has already been adopted as a result of this collaboration. We hope many more adoption stories come about from this amazing new program!
